My world turned upside-down almost 4 years ago when I was diagnosed with cancer. I closed my business and decided it was time to dedicate my time to things that really mattered to me....painting was on the top of my list. I'm cancer free now and happy to share a sampling of the work (play) I do.
Typically I like to work fast with loose strokes. I am impatient and spontaneous when painting so acrylics tend to be the best medium for my work. I paint multiple paintings at once, while spotify blares high energy tunes from bands like "The Killers" or "Red Hot Chili Peppers".
At times I start with a picture of a landscape, a still life or photo of a place I've been. Sometimes I stop when the painting looks impressionistic, but more often, I allow the painting to morph into something completely non-representational. I paint, scrape off, paint over again until the painting tells me what it needs to be complete. There is nothing better than the serendipitous feeling of creating a beautiful painting with nothing in mind, so usually I start without any preconceived idea of what I will paint, just mix beautiful colors and sporadically apply shapes and lines.
